A former Marine with a background that ranges from coal mining and trucking to healthcare leadership, Layne blends real-world experience with deep technical research to create grounded, atmospheric stories set against the backdrop of Appalachia.
Best known for his post-apocalyptic fiction series The Tambora Series, Layne writes about ordinary people forced into extraordinary circumstances — the hard choices, fractured communities, and enduring bonds that emerge when the systems people depend on begin to fail.
